Vintner Flute — Original Style | 2ND

$80.75

From the finest cuvée to easygoing mimosas, raise a glass to this handcrafted flute. Designed with the help of a few of our favorite California winemakers, this collection appeals to experienced wine tasters and lovers of handblown glass alike. The pulled-stem technique results in a thinner, more lightweight bowl, typical of a classic sommelier's glass. The substantial stem and base, as well as visible ripple lines from the glassblowing process, offer grace and authenticity.

What makes a second?

The heat of the room, the hum of the furnace, the weight of the tools... a glassblowing studio is itself a living, breathing thing, in which even the world’s most masterful craftspeople can expect variations in the work they create.

Unlike mass-produced design, handmade pieces yield divergent outcomes, owing to even the smallest differences in conditions. A change in breath, a flick of the wrist or a shift of foot can and will affect the final product.

Unique beauty lives in imperfection. Each Seconds piece captures a moment of the human hand at work, where unique conditions lead to slight variations and differences preserved in glass. These imperfections include small bubbles, fine lines, or a faint hue in the product. The quality and functionality aren’t inferior to Firsts, but rather, they are a thoughtful option for those who value character and an organic quality in their household objects.

• Seconds are priced up to 25% off the first quality price.
• All sales are final on second quality glass and pottery.
• Gift wrapping is not available on seconds items.

What Makes a Second?

TOOL MARKS

Lines or impressions left by molds and hand tools—visible traces of the process that shapes each piece.

VARIATIONS IN FORM

Gentle differences in shape or proportion, including uneven rims or dimensions beyond our usual tolerances.

Occasional larger bubbles or clustered air pockets captured during the molten process.

UNMELTED GLASS

Swirls or fragments of unmelted materials from the furnace environment.

Frequently asked questions

Seconds are fully functional pieces that don’t meet our strict visual standards. Because every item is made by hand, small variations naturally occur throughout the making process. Some seconds reflect the learning curve of new artisans or the refinement of a new design, while others simply fall outside our tolerance guidelines. When this happens, the piece is designated as a second and offered at a reduced price.

Seconds are typically offered at 10%–30% off the original price, depending on the piece.

Seconds may include subtle differences in shape, size, or finish. Common variations can include:

1. Slight dimensional differences beyond our tolerance range, typically ⅛"– ½".
2. Small bubbles within the glass.
3. A gentle wobble that does not affect stability.
4. Occasional stones or cords in the glass, which reflect the molten material and furnace environment.

These variations are visual in nature and part of the handmade process. Pieces that are unsafe, sharp, or unstable are never offered as seconds.

No. Because seconds celebrate variation, each piece is unique and may differ from the product photography shown. That individuality is part of what makes seconds special.
